The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has delivered 35 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to support the government’s efforts to make transportation cheaper and more eco-friendly.
The buses were handed over to the Presidential CNG Initiative in Abuja as part of an ongoing push to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on petrol and diesel. NNPC said the donation reflects its goal to support cleaner, more affordable alternatives through gas-powered mobility.
Government officials at the event described the buses as a practical solution to rising transport costs and praised the initiative for tapping into the country’s vast natural gas reserves.
The move is seen as part of a broader national strategy to promote economic relief and environmental responsibility by transitioning from premium motor spirit (PMS) to gas.
The CNG Initiative, backed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, is expected to ease commuting costs and support the local energy industry with long-term benefits for communities.
