Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticised the Federal Government for repeatedly negotiating with bandits, saying Nigeria should seek global support if it cannot tackle rising insecurity.

Speaking at a Christmas event in Jos, Obasanjo said the surge in killings and kidnappings shows the government is failing to protect citizens.

Recent attacks include the abduction of students and teachers in Niger and Kebbi, and several kidnappings across Niger, Kano, and Kwara in the last week alone.

Obasanjo said Nigerians should not remain silent while violence escalates: “We Nigerians are being killed, and our government seems incapable of protecting us. If they can’t do it, we have the right to call on the international community.”

He also questioned why modern tools like drones are not being fully utilised:

“We have the capacity. Why are we apologising? Why are we negotiating?”

Obasanjo urged the government to take stronger, technology-driven action instead of appeasing terrorists.
