Obi Warns Nigerians Against Vote-Selling

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has cautioned Nigerians against the practice of vote-buying, describing it as a major threat to the country’s democracy.

In a message shared on X, Obi said politicians who pay for votes are not helping the people but investing in corruption.

According to him, such politicians see vote-buying as a gateway to public funds, which they later divert from essential services like schools, hospitals, and job creation.

Obi argued that selling votes amounts to selling the future.

He urged Nigerians to resist the temptation of temporary gain and instead use their votes to elect leaders committed to service and nation-building.

“The choice is ours,” he said. “Either we continue trading our future for short-term benefits and remain trapped in bad governance, or we reject bribery and choose leaders who will build, not loot.”
