Osun PDP Governorship Primary Kicks Off with Adeleke and Adebayo in Race

The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State launched its governorship primary election on Tuesday, featuring Governor Ademola Adeleke and former Deputy Governor Goke Adebayo as leading contenders. Voting began at 10 a.m. across 30 local government areas, with accreditation starting at 8 a.m. for delegates to choose the party’s candidate for the 2026 polls.

Adeleke, the incumbent seeking re-election, arrived early at his polling unit in Ede. Adebayo, a close ally, cast his vote in Osogbo amid tight security. Party officials reported smooth starts in most centres, though minor delays hit a few spots due to logistics.

The primary drew over 1,000 delegates from ward congresses held on November 24. It follows months of internal wrangling that nearly derailed the process. Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored proceedings to ensure fairness.

This contest tests loyalties in a state where fresh alliances could reshape power. Voters weigh steady hands against bold visions, their choices a quiet stake in Osun’s tomorrow.
