The Federal Government says it has channelled close to N70 billion into strengthening primary healthcare delivery across Nigeria in the last two years.
According to the Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Pate, about N50 billion was sent directly to Primary Health Centres (PHCs) through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, while another N20 billion went into rehabilitating and upgrading over 4,000 facilities in the northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Pate explained that the initiative, funded partly from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and donor support, is aimed at expanding access to basic medical services at the grassroots.
The minister noted that results are already visible. He disclosed that in just the first quarter of 2025, PHCs across the country recorded more than 37 million patient visits. He also said enrollment into health insurance schemes is projected to surpass last year’s 2.4 million mark before the end of 2025.
He added that the Tinubu administration’s investment in primary health has led to modernised infrastructure and wider coverage, describing it as part of a “data-driven re-engineering” of the health system.
