A leading mobile money firm has rallied people across Nigeria to stay sharp against web scams and lock down their financial profiles. The company organised a 7km awareness march in the bustling streets of Kano to teach locals how to dodge online tricks and shield their cash from thieves.
The event forms part of a country-wide drive to toughen up the nation’s online money system. It drew crowds along spots like Murtala Muhammad Way, Bata Roundabout, Ibo Road, Abuja Road, Yankura Market, and Kano Guest Inn. Workers held up signs with clear warnings such as “We Can Beat Fraud Together,” “You Lead the Fight Against Scams,” and “Keep Your PIN to Yourself.”
The firm’s top boss, Chika Nwosu, led the call to wipe out fraud so no user falls prey. He stressed building a safe money network for all. “We aim for zero scams,” he said, noting a big drop in bad cases on their app, but more work lies ahead.
Simple steps can keep users safe, Nwosu advised. Always check web links before tapping them, and skip any that look off from texts or social pages. Never hand over key codes like your PIN or one-time pass, no matter who asks—even if they claim to work for the firm. Spot something fishy? Flag it through proper lines right away.
The outfit has rolled out millions of cards for easy pulls from cash machines, online buys, or spots run by partners. Nwosu urged everyone to join hands in the battle, as stopping fraud takes a team effort.
