A delegation from a Peoples Democratic Party faction held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The group, led by National Chairman Tanimu Turaki, arrived around 11:30am on Saturday, December 13, 2025. They sought the elder statesman’s guidance and support amid the party’s ongoing challenges.

Turaki described the visit as a chance to introduce the new leadership and pay respects to Obasanjo as a founding father of the PDP. He highlighted the presence of Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara, National Secretary Taofeek Arapaja, former Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang. The team thanked Obasanjo for his past contributions to democracy and strong institutions.
Obasanjo encouraged the visitors, telling them the party’s issues remain fixable and urging them to press on. He praised their efforts, saying they performed well despite difficulties. Turaki later told reporters the discussion inspired confidence in reclaiming power from the All Progressives Congress in 2027, starting with wins in upcoming Ekiti and Osun governorship elections.
The meeting lasted about 40 minutes and took place against a backdrop of recent high-profile defections from the PDP. Party leaders expressed renewed determination to rebuild unity and position the opposition as a strong alternative.

As the PDP navigates internal divisions, such consultations with respected elders signal efforts to restore cohesion and momentum ahead of future polls.
