Peter Obi Affirms Labour Party Membership Amid Coalition Talks with ADC

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party (LP) while endorsing a new political coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Obi, who attended the coalition’s unveiling in Abuja, clarified that the alliance, which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, is not a defection but a strategic partnership for national interest.

“Today, I’m a member of the LP, but we’ve all agreed to work in a coalition for 2027. We want better governance. We want a more competent government with character,” he stated.

He dismissed allegations of anti-party activity, insisting, “There’s no anti-party in this. We’re not abandoning where we are.”

Addressing rumours of serving as a running mate, Obi said, “Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I’m going to be anything. What I know is that I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it.”

The former governor also promised to serve only a single term if elected. “If given the chance, I’ll not do more than four years. A lot can be achieved within that time frame,” he said.

Obi criticised the way the government responds to national tragedies and said he would show more empathy if given the chance to lead.
