The House of Representatives has asked the Federal Government to build new National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps and repair existing ones.
The decision followed a motion by Garba Muhammad, who said many states have no permanent orientation camps, while others use temporary school facilities.
“Some states lack orientation camps altogether,” he said, warning that this has led to overcrowding and corps members being sent to neighbouring states.
He stressed the need for modern, spacious camps in each state that can host at least 5,000 corps members, saying this would improve training and reduce stress for participants.
The House urged the Federal Ministry of Youth to work with state governments and other stakeholders to build and upgrade the camps.
It also asked its Committees on Youth Development and Legislative Compliance to monitor the process and report back in four weeks.
