Reps Committee Seeks Tax Relief for Military Personnel

In a move to recognise the sacrifices of Nigeria’s armed forces, the House of Representatives Committee on Finance has recommended exempting military personnel from paying personal income tax.

The proposal was put forward on Thursday by the committee’s chairman, Abiodun Faleke, during a detailed review of four tax bills submitted by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024.

Faleke highlighted the rationale behind the exemption, stating that the military’s critical role in national security warrants financial relief. “Given the nature of their assignment, it is only fair that military personnel be exempted from personal income tax,” he explained.

Lawmakers at the session unanimously supported the recommendation, signalling strong legislative backing for the initiative.
