The House of Representatives has begun an investigation into the $460 million Chinese loan taken in 2010 under former President Goodluck Jonathan for the installation of CCTV cameras in Abuja, a project that was never completed.
The motion was raised by Hon. Amobi Ogah (Abia), who questioned why insecurity in the capital keeps rising despite the massive loan.
“Despite the billions spent, there’s no CCTV anywhere, yet we’re still repaying the loan,” Ogah said.
Other lawmakers backed the call, describing the situation as a waste of public funds.
The House has set up a committee to trace how the money was used and identify those responsible for the failed project.
