The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its five-day warning strike after two days, granting the Federal Government a two-week window to address unresolved welfare issues.
NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, said the decision was taken to “extend a hand of goodwill” to Nigerians while allowing authorities time to act.
“We just want to give a human face and also extend this olive branch to the government. We do hope that within this period of two weeks, they will be able to attend to everything contained in our list of demands,” he said.
The doctors are demanding payment of salary arrears, allowances, and other outstanding benefits. So far, only the Medical Residency Training Fund for 2025 has been addressed, according to Osundara.
He warned that failure to meet the demands before September 26, when the association holds its Annual General Meeting, could trigger a resumption of the strike.
Osundara also clarified that the suspension does not affect resident doctors in Oyo State, who will continue their strike pending a separate agreement with the state government.
