Resident Doctors Threaten Nationwide Strike Over Unpaid Allowances

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government a 10-day ultimatum to meet its welfare demands or face a nationwide strike.

In a statement released after an emergency meeting, the doctors accused the government of failing to pay the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, five months of salary arrears from the recent salary structure review, and the 2024 accoutrement allowance. They also condemned the downgrading of postgraduate medical certificates and the neglect of doctors in Kaduna and Oyo states.

The association demanded immediate payment of all outstanding entitlements and restoration of recognition for medical certificates.

NARD warned that if these issues are not resolved by September 10, 2025, its members will withdraw their services across the country.
