A joint committee of the National Assembly has pushed for the urgent implementation of a 4% Free-On-Board (FOB) levy meant to boost Nigeria Customs Service operations.
Chairman of the committee on Customs and Tariffs, Senator Isah Jibrin, raised the concern during a session with Finance Minister Wale Edun, questioning why a legally backed charge was yet to be enforced.
According to him, since the provision has already been passed into law, there should be no delays in putting it into effect. The committee backed his call through a unanimous voice vote.
Lawmakers also pressed the finance ministry to fast-track the release of funds for Customs modernisation, particularly a ₦50 billion project currently awaiting Federal Executive Council approval.
