The Senate is set to approve President Bola Tinubu’s nominees to lead Nigeria’s two main petroleum regulatory agencies.
The nominees are Saidu Muhammad for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that Tinubu sent the nominations to the Senate following the exit of the former heads of both agencies. He said quick confirmation was necessary to avoid leadership gaps in the oil and gas sector.
Both nominees were screened by the Senate as a committee on Thursday. The process was brief, with lawmakers reviewing their credentials before clearing them.
The nominations come after recent leadership changes in the petroleum sector, triggered by controversies surrounding regulatory actions in the downstream industry.
Once confirmed, the new appointees are expected to ensure stability and continuity in regulating Nigeria’s oil and gas operations.
