Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, appeared in court today in Abuja over accusations that she made false and damaging statements about Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
The Federal Government is accusing her of saying, during a live TV interview and a private phone call, that Akpabio and Bello plotted to have her killed and tried to make it look like a mob attack. She also reportedly made a shocking claim that a murder victim’s organs were used to treat Akpabio’s wife.
The government says these claims hurt the reputations of the two men and were made without proof.
After her arraignment at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, the judge granted her bail of ₦50 million. She is to provide one surety who lives in Abuja and owns a property within the city.
Akpabio, Bello, and four other people are expected to testify in court when the trial begins fully.
