Telecom companies in Nigeria have announced a temporary halt to SIM card services like replacements, swaps, and new registrations.
The suspension is due to a system upgrade by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), which is moving to a new identity verification platform. The switch has caused unexpected technical issues, affecting all mobile networks.
The telecom operators, under their association ALTON, say they are working closely with NIMC and regulators to resolve the issue and resume services soon. Meanwhile, customers are advised to hold off on SIM-related requests until further notice.
They apologised or the inconvenience and promised regular updates as work continues.
