Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has confronted the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over its refusal to release the discharge certificate of corps member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, known as “Raye.”
Sowore arrived at NYSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday with her lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, and other activists, insisting she had completed her service and should be cleared immediately.
“This injustice will not stand,” Sowore declared.
Raye has alleged the certificate was withheld because she criticised President Bola Tinubu’s government.
The NYSC denied this, saying she missed her mandatory biometric clearance in April 2025, leading to a two-month service extension under its bye-laws. It added that she is one of 131 corps members facing the same sanction.
“This is standard procedure and not unique to her case,” NYSC said.
