Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has questioned the large security team reportedly escorting Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at an event in Lagos, Soyinka said he recently saw what he considered an unusually heavy convoy protecting the young man and warned that such deployments are unfair in a country struggling with insecurity.
He said children of public officials are not elected leaders and should not receive state protection on that scale.
Soyinka also cautioned Nigeria against getting entangled in the recent political tension in Benin Republic and criticised the way demolitions are being carried out in Lagos, urging government to handle affected residents more humanely.
A video of his comments has since gone viral on X, while the Presidency has not responded to the concerns raised.
