In a heartwarming display of cultural friendship, a major Chinese publishing house has made a generous donation of books to several schools in Nigeria. The People’s Education Press (PEP) of China gifted over 900 books to thirteen “Chinese Corners” located in secondary schools across Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. This thoughtful gesture is aimed at strengthening the educational and cultural bonds between the two nations.
The donation, which was officially presented at the China Cultural Center in Abuja, is a big boost for Nigeria’s growing Chinese language learning program. The books include a variety of Chinese language textbooks as well as English-language books about Chinese culture. They have been specially chosen to meet the needs of the students who are part of the “Chinese Corners” initiative.
Nigerian officials have praised the donation, highlighting the positive and lasting impact it will have on both students and teachers. Muhammed Sani Ladan, the director of the Secondary Education Board in Abuja, expressed his gratitude and emphasized how valuable these books will be for the local community.
The idea for this donation came about when the president of the People’s Education Press, Huang Qiang, visited Nigeria last year. During his visit, he saw firsthand the need for more learning materials and decided to take action. Speaking through a video message at the donation ceremony, he expressed his happiness at being able to help.
To celebrate this special occasion, students from the schools that received the books put on a wonderful show of Chinese and Nigerian cultural performances. Their excitement and talent were a clear sign of the strong connection that is being built between the two countries.
The “Chinese Corners” program, which started in 2013, is a joint effort between the Chinese embassy and the local education board. It has successfully introduced Chinese language classes into thirteen schools in Abuja, taught by Nigerian teachers who have been trained at the China Cultural Center. This program has become an important way for young Nigerians to learn about China and its rich culture.
