Suspected Cultists Kill Police Officer and Passerby in Ogun Clash

Suspected cultists from the Aiye and Eiye confraternities killed a police officer and an unidentified passerby in Ilese, near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Saturday night. The attack struck around 10 p.m. when gunmen stormed the area and fired wildly. The officer, Olamilekan from the Obalende Division in Ijebu-Ode, fell among the victims as panic gripped residents.

A community source described the horror to reporters. “They were shooting sporadically when they stormed the area and left residents in panic,” the source said. The clash between the rival groups turned a quiet night into chaos, claiming innocent lives in the crossfire.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed the officer’s death on Sunday. He awaited full details on the incident but vowed to track down those responsible.

This brutal outburst shatters families and sows fear in everyday streets. A dedicated officer lost his life serving, while a stranger paid the ultimate price for simply passing by. Such violence demands swift justice to heal these raw wounds.
