Popular TikTok content creator Hamzat Habeeb, known as Peller, issued a public apology following a car crash caused by reckless driving on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos. He livestreamed himself driving dangerously on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and threatened to crash his newly purchased Mercedes-Benz in what appeared to be a suicide attempt. He lost control and smashed the vehicle into a stone barrier.
Bystanders rushed Peller to hospital after the incident. The crash video went viral and sparked widespread outrage over the risks to himself and other road users. Authorities described the act as extremely dangerous.
Lagos State Police arrested Peller on Tuesday, December 17, 2025, and detained him for investigation. They transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The Federal Road Safety Corps plans to prosecute him for offences including reckless driving, phone use while driving, and distracted driving.
Peller posted an apology video on Instagram on Friday, December 19, 2025. He said emotions overwhelmed him and pleaded for forgiveness. “I let emotion get to me. That’s why I do that. I’m very sorry,” he stated, adding that he never intended harm and urged fans not to bully Jarvis, who had no involvement.
He remains on medication after the crash and promised never to repeat such behaviour. The incident has reignited debates on influencer stunts for engagement, road safety enforcement, and mental health support for young public figures.
