President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians not to worry about the new tax regime set to begin in 2026, saying it will ease the burden on the poor, low-income earners and small businesses.
Speaking at an event in Ibadan to honour late former Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Tinubu said the tax reforms are part of efforts to stabilise the economy and support everyday Nigerians. He noted that basic needs such as food, medication, education, agriculture and shared transportation will be exempted from heavy taxes, while businesses will be protected from multiple taxation.
The President said early results from his economic reforms are encouraging and that Nigerians will begin to feel more relief as the new tax laws take effect.
Tinubu also praised Ajimobi’s leadership and urged members of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State to unite ahead of the 2027 elections.
The event, attended by political leaders and scholars, focused on restoring trust and credibility in Nigeria’s democracy.
