Tinubu Commends Lawmakers for Backing Rivers Emergency Rule

President Bola Tinubu has praised the National Assembly for approving emergency rule in Rivers State, calling it a necessary step toward restoring order after months of political turmoil.

According to his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, the President acknowledged the lawmakers for prioritising security and governance over political interests. He noted that the crisis had jeopardised vital national assets and economic stability, making decisive action unavoidable.

“The crisis in Rivers State was at a perilous tipping point, threatening the security of vital oil and gas installations and undermining the national economy and the significant progress we have made in the reforms initiated since our administration commenced in May 2023,” Tinubu remarked.

Tinubu emphasised that the six-month intervention will allow the appointed administrator to restore governance and prevent further disruptions. He urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at stabilising Rivers and ensuring long-term peace.
