President Bola Tinubu has said the new tax laws will be implemented on schedule, with some already in effect and others set to begin on January 1, 2026.
In a statement on Tuesday, Tinubu explained that the reforms are not meant to raise taxes but to fix the system and make it fairer. He said there is no major issue that should delay the rollout and urged stakeholders to support the process.
“These reforms are about resetting the tax system and building trust,” the President said.
He also assured Nigerians that the government will work with the National Assembly to resolve any concerns.
Earlier, the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, said the laws are designed to protect low-income earners, adding that most workers and small businesses will either pay no tax or enjoy significant relief.
