President Bola Tinubu paid glowing tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari at the launch of his official biography in Abuja on December 15, 2025. The event took place at the State House Banquet Hall and featured the book titled *From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari*. Tinubu described Buhari as a leader who loved Nigeria deeply and left an admirable record of discipline and public service.
Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at age 82 in a London clinic after a long illness. His remains returned home for burial in Daura, Katsina State, during a state funeral attended by regional leaders. Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s widow, Aisha, their children, and grandchildren, assuring them of the nation’s prayers and support.
Tinubu highlighted Buhari’s reputation for integrity and simple living. He noted that true leadership shows in what remains after power ends, praising Buhari’s belief that public office is a trust, not a personal gain. The two leaders built a strong coalition that led to the historic 2015 victory, unseating an incumbent and reshaping politics.
Their alliance grew the All Progressives Congress into Africa’s fastest-expanding party. Tinubu recalled Buhari’s focus on self-discipline to reform systems, investments in security platforms and personnel, and long-term infrastructure projects like railways, roads, bridges, and airports. Buhari also prioritised social programmes for the poor and vulnerable.
Tinubu pledged to continue these efforts, stating that a legacy gains meaning when successors build on it. He emphasised Buhari’s consistent patriotism and honesty, even from critics, and the value of cooperation across differences for nation-building. The President prayed for mercy on Buhari’s soul and blessings of unity, wisdom, and peace for Nigeria.
Tinubu thanked the book’s author for capturing a complex life richly. He urged young Nigerians to draw inspiration from it as they shape their own paths in leadership.
The tribute reflects on a shared political history and commitment to sustaining gains in security, infrastructure, and social justice for the country’s progress.
