Tinubu’s ECOWAS Chairmanship Nears End as Leadership Transition Begins

President Bola Tinubu is set to complete his tenure as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government this weekend, marking the end of a two-term leadership role he began in July 2023.

The upcoming ECOWAS summit in Abuja will usher in new leadership for the regional body. Speaking at the closing of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, hinted at the transition and thanked member states for their support.

Tuggar, who also served as Chair of the Council, expressed optimism for continued cooperation as a new chairperson is expected to be announced during the summit.
