US President Donald Trump revealed on December 25, 2025, that American forces carried out multiple deadly strikes against Islamic State terrorists in northwest Nigeria. He posted the announcement on Truth Social, describing the targets as ISIS militants who had been killing innocent Christians at high levels. Trump warned of further action if the violence continued.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote. He added that the Department of War executed “numerous perfect strikes” and vowed more if the “slaughter of Christians” persisted, ending with “MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead terrorists.”

US Africa Command confirmed the operation targeted ISIS camps in Sokoto State, killing multiple terrorists. Officials conducted the strikes in coordination with Nigerian authorities. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth thanked the Nigerian government for its support and cooperation.
The action followed Trump’s earlier warnings about violence against Christians in Nigeria and threats of potential intervention. It came a day after a mosque bombing in Maiduguri killed five people in a suspected suicide attack.
Nigerian officials described the strikes as part of ongoing security cooperation with the US to combat terrorism. They emphasised that the fight targets extremists, not tied to any specific religion, and protects all citizens regardless of faith.
As families mourn losses from ongoing violence, the strikes mark a direct US response amid heightened international focus on Nigeria’s security challenges.
