The United States has given the green light for a possible $346 million military deal with Nigeria, covering precision-guided bombs, rockets, and other munitions to bolster the country’s defence capabilities.

According to a statement from the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the sale has been communicated to Congress for review.

The package includes over 1,000 MK-82 general-purpose bombs, 5,000 precision-guided rockets, and various bomb components, fuzes, and support equipment.

DSCA said the proposed deal would enhance Nigeria’s ability to counter terrorism, combat illicit trafficking, and address security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea, without disrupting the military balance in West Africa.

The arrangement also involves technical support, integration assistance, and logistics services from major U.S. defence contractors, including RTX Missiles and Defense, Lockheed Martin, and BAE Systems.

No offsets or special trade arrangements have been announced, and the U.S. government stressed that the deal would not impact its own defence readiness.
