U.S. Embassy in Nigeria Warns Against ‘Birth Tourism’

The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned that travelling to America solely to give birth and secure U.S. citizenship for a child violates visa rules and will lead to refusal of entry.

In a notice shared Monday, the embassy said consular officers are now on high alert for such cases, stressing that anyone found with this intent would be denied a visa outright.

The warning is part of the embassy’s campaign to curb misuse of non-immigrant visas and protect the integrity of U.S. immigration laws.

Officials also reiterated that birth tourism undermines immigration security and would be met with strict enforcement.
