Two popular voices on social media could end up in prison after a row turned into punches on a flight from Asaba to Lagos.
The trouble broke out on Monday morning during boarding on a United Nigeria Airlines plane. Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, or Mr Jollof, started with harsh words that soon led to them hitting each other. Other passengers and the flight team stepped in to pull them apart.
A clip that spread quickly online shows the chaos, with crew rushing to calm things down. VeryDarkMan later shared his own video, saying he had sorted out Mr Jollof and that the comedian bit him during the scrap.
The airline’s staff quickly removed both men from the flight to keep everyone safe. They then passed them to airport guards for a closer look. The carrier said it follows strict rules to stop any risks in the air and that the plane left without them once checks were done.
Aviation bosses have slammed the pair, saying their actions broke safety guidelines. A top official from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said there is no room for such wild behaviour on planes. He called it a poor show, especially from people who tell their followers to act right. The airline must now file a report, leading to court steps and fines.
Under a 2022 law on flights, fights that could harm the plane or block crew work are crimes. Those caught face at least two million naira in penalties or up to five years locked up, or both. For getting in the way of staff, it’s up to 200,000 naira or two months in jail, or both.
The scrap seems to stem from weeks of online spats between the two. It joins other recent rows on planes, like a singer’s clash in August and a woman’s attack on a worker the next day. Watchers say leaders must act fast to stop these scares in the skies.
