Wike Condemns Rogue Order to Shut FCT Schools

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike slammed an unauthorised directive to close all FCT schools on Friday, November 28, 2025, as a reckless breach of protocol. He made the remarks to journalists in Abuja after inspecting Road N11 construction in Guzape. The FCT administration denied issuing the circular, which reached schools without approval.

Wike spotted the news on a television scroll the night before and rang the Commissioner of Police and State Security Service Director straight away. Both confirmed no such plan existed on their radars. He grilled the Mandate Secretary for Education, who swore ignorance of the memo and called it absurd for officials to act ahead of orders.

The minister fumed that no threat warranted such panic, especially when states like Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Kogi kept schools open despite dangers. “How could anyone distribute that circular without my knowledge? Even I couldn’t issue it without alerting the President,” Wike said. He vowed to hunt down those responsible, sparing no one in the fallout.

Officials suspended the Education Secretary on the spot. The director behind the memo now faces full civil service discipline. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, issued the denial and backed the tough measures.

Wike reassured parents and principals that security teams stand ready to guard every classroom. FCT children deserve unbroken learning, not shadows of needless fear cast by hasty fools.
