YouTube has recognised four Nigerian women creators, including Ruth Kadiri, Kiekie, Ify Mogekwu, and Korty, as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, highlighting their contributions to digital storytelling, comedy, cuisine, and youth culture.
The platform praised the women for using YouTube to share compelling African narratives with a global audience, as Nigeria’s content ecosystem continues to grow rapidly. In 2024 alone, over 70% of viewership for Nigerian YouTube channels came from outside the country, reflecting the international reach of creators from the region.
Ruth Kadiri, known for her emotional and relatable films, has amassed nearly 3 million subscribers and hundreds of millions of views. Kiekie combines comedy and fashion to engage a wide fanbase. Ify Mogekwu simplifies African cooking through her channel Ify’s Kitchen, while Korty documents youth culture and celebrity interviews, earning recognition from initiatives like the YouTube Black Voices Fund.
YouTube also reported a rise in content monetisation, with more than 100 Nigerian channels now exceeding one million subscribers, a 60% jump from the previous year, and a growing number earning significant revenue.
According to YouTube, the recognition affirms the platform’s commitment to spotlighting African creators and giving them tools to expand their influence across borders.
