The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has withdrawn from all reconciliation arrangements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing repeated breaches of trust by key party figures.
In a statement released on Sunday, Wike accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of undermining efforts to restore unity in the opposition party. He claimed Makinde had consistently violated agreements meant to resolve internal disputes, calling him the “main source” of the party’s instability.
Wike, a founding member of the G5 group and former Rivers State governor, said several resolutions, including the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the PDP’s National Secretary, had been deliberately ignored despite repeated meetings and assurances.
He alleged that Makinde, alongside Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, attempted to impose an alternative candidate for the secretary position, triggering a series of internal conflicts and institutional confusion within the party’s ranks.
“It’s clear now that some leaders are determined to derail the party through dishonesty and manipulation,” Wike said. “I have chosen to step away from all previous agreements. I will continue to push for justice.”
He also expressed disappointment that, despite his long-standing loyalty to the PDP and his role in the electoral victories of several party leaders, those same individuals had failed to uphold mutual commitments.
Wike’s exit from the reconciliation process marks a fresh setback for the PDP, which has struggled with internal fractures since the 2023 general elections.
