The Federal Government has initiated steps to complete and allocate over 700 housing units in Abuja, previously seized from ex-CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The Lokogoma-based estate, recently handed over by the EFCC, will be transformed into affordable homes under a new government initiative, according to Housing Minister Ahmed Dangiwa.
A 12-member panel, led by Permanent Secretary Shuaib Belgore, has been tasked with inspecting the buildings, evaluating what remains to be done, and developing a fair allocation system. Their work is expected to be done in four weeks.
“This is part of President Tinubu’s housing reforms,” Dangiwa said. “We want to show that recovered assets can be used to directly improve people’s lives.”
The committee will also examine structural quality, infrastructure gaps like power and water, and work with relevant agencies to get the estate ready for residents. A digital platform, the Renewed Hope Housing Portal, will be used to ensure fair and transparent access once allocation begins.
Minister of State Yusuf Abdullahi Ata emphasised the importance of teamwork and urged the committee to bring in external professionals if needed.
According to Belgore, this marks a new phase in how seized properties are handled.
“Rather than letting them waste away, we’re turning them into solutions,” he said.
