The Federal Government of Nigeria has secured a €20 million grant from the German government to support its shift towards clean and renewable energy.
The deal, supported by the German government, will fund projects that help more Nigerians access renewable energy, especially in underserved communities. It will also train locals, including young people and women, to work in the growing green energy sector.
The funding will flow through trusted partners, including Germany’s KfW Bank and the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund, focusing on practical energy solutions that move Nigeria away from fossil fuels.
Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, signed the deal on behalf of the country, while German officials including Dr. Karin Jansen, First Secretary at the German Embassy, represented Germany.
Bagudu stated that the project will improve energy access in rural communities, empower youths and women, and support Nigeria’s climate and economic goals.
