Deeper Life Bible Church is demanding adequate redress after one of its buildings in Surulere, Lagos, was demolished by authorities.
The structure, located on Aina Street, was brought down in May by the Lagos State Building Control Agency. Church officials have since questioned the basis for the demolition, citing concerns about due process and ownership rights.
Speaking on behalf of the church, spokesperson Taiwo Kupolati revealed that a ₦10 million compensation proposed by the local council was declined, describing it as insufficient. He said the church is instead seeking either full compensation based on proper valuation or relocation to a similar site within the area.
The church has also reached out to the police to ensure members are not harassed while they continue lawful activities on the disputed land.
While the state government has distanced itself from the demolition, a top official confirmed that discussions are ongoing with church leaders to find a peaceful resolution.
