The Federal Government has restated its commitment to using gas to drive Nigeria’s economy and development.
Speaking at the South-South Gas Utilisation Forum in Uyo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo ,said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is focused on turning Nigeria into a gas-powered nation through the “Decade of Gas” initiative.
He urged leaders, industry players, and communities to move from just talking to taking action that brings real benefits, especially to the gas-producing South-South region.
“This region produces most of Nigeria’s gas, yet many communities don’t feel the impact. It’s time to change that,” he said.
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, represented by Deputy Governor Akon Ayakenyi, said the forum helped the government better understand how gas can boost jobs, industry, and the environment.
Also speaking, the head of Gas Aggregator Company Nigeria, Chijioke Uzoho, said the South-South region has what it takes to lead Nigeria’s economic growth if public and private sectors work together.
The forum ended with a shared call to turn Nigeria’s gas resources into real growth, jobs, and development for all, not just promises on paper.
