A new initiative backed by Diageo Nigeria and the Lagos State Government will offer free hospitality training to 500 young Nigerians, as part of efforts to combat youth unemployment.

The “Learning for Life” programme, jointly launched by Diageo and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), was formalised through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between both parties.

The initiative, designed to benefit unemployed and underrepresented youth, will provide training in hospitality services, soft skills, and workplace readiness. Participants will also undergo a one-week classroom session followed by an 11-week internship to gain real-world experience.

Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, speaking on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised the programme and confirmed the expansion of participants from 250 to 500.

Training modules will cover areas such as bar service, communication, budgeting, CV writing, gender inclusion, and workplace ethics.

According to Diageo, the programme was created to equip young Nigerians with practical tools for employment in the hospitality industry, while also promoting inclusion and personal development.
