Nigeria’s Senate has scheduled a tribute session to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who recently passed away after a prolonged illness.
Announcing the decision during Tuesday’s plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said lawmakers would dedicate Wednesday’s sitting to reflect on Buhari’s contributions to the nation, both as a civilian leader and former military head of state.
In a separate development, the Senate pushed back on widespread claims that it had approved the creation of new states. Akpabio clarified that while proposals have been submitted to the Constitution Review Committee, none have reached the stage of deliberation or approval.
“No state has been created. The process is still at the proposal stage,” he told lawmakers, urging the public to disregard false information circulating online.
