The Federal Government has increased the cost of Nigerian passports to N100,000 and N200,000, effective September 1, 2025.
According to the Nigeria Immigration Service, applications made within Nigeria will now cost N100,000 for the 32-page, five-year booklet and N200,000 for the 64-page, 10-year booklet. Fees for Nigerians abroad remain at $150 and $230, respectively.
Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the adjustment was necessary to deliver passports faster, improve quality, and stamp out corruption.
“Our target is to ensure that every Nigerian should have their passport in hand within one week of enrolment,” he said at the ministry’s mid-tenure retreat in Abuja. “That era when people waited months or paid hundreds of thousands to get passports is over.”
The minister disclosed that a centralised personalisation centre, described as the largest in Africa, would fast-track processing and end delays previously caused by Passport Control Officers.
“We realised that the best way to cut corruption is to reduce human contact to the barest minimum. Passport approval will no longer rest with PCOs,” he added.
Tunji-Ojo stressed that the reforms also aim to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s travel document. “Anybody carrying our passport must be a Nigerian. It is a symbol of national identity and must be protected.”
