Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are competing to sign Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman from Italian side Atalanta before the Turkish transfer window closes on 12 September. The player has been training alone after a failed move to Inter Milan earlier this summer.
Atalanta remains firm on their €50 million (£46m/$60m) valuation for the 27-year-old forward, who scored 20 goals and provided 7 assists in 40 appearances last season. Both Istanbul clubs are exploring loan deals with options to buy, but Atalanta insists on a permanent transfer.
Fenerbahce has offered Lookman a four-year contract worth €6 million per season in wages, though no formal agreement exists with either the player or his club. Galatasaray dreams of pairing Lookman with fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen in an all-Nigerian attacking lineup.
The transfer situation mirrors last year’s move by Victor Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan after a similar standoff with Napoli. With the European transfer window now closed, Turkey’s extended deadline provides a unique opportunity for both clubs to secure the talented winger.
The coming days will be crucial as both clubs attempt to negotiate a deal acceptable to Atalanta before the Turkish transfer deadline passes next week.
