Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of piling up debts while indulging in wasteful spending.
In an interview on Arise TV, Melaye questioned the government’s decision to seek fresh loans despite already securing approvals for billions of dollars.
“This government is one of the most reckless in the history of this country,” he said, warning that Nigeria could soon be borrowing from loan apps if the trend continues.
He also criticised the purchase of a presidential yacht and a new aircraft, arguing that such spending contradicts the president’s promise to cut costs.
Melaye further alleged that the National Assembly’s budget had been inflated under Tinubu, describing it as another sign of waste.
His remarks follow warnings from Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, who recently raised concerns that Nigeria’s debt has surpassed legal limits and threatens the economy.
