Nigerian Deputy Senate President Slams Trump’s Warning, Demands Pullback and Apology

Nigeria’s number two lawmaker in the upper house has blasted the US president for calling the country a “shamed nation” and warning of strong steps if attacks on Christians do not stop. Senator Jibrin Barau said the words break world rules and go against how nations should talk to each other.

In a video that spread fast online, Barau called the threat “not like America at all” and a clear overstep on Nigeria’s right to handle its own matters. He told Trump to take back the claim right away and say sorry to the people here. “No matter what you think of us, stick to the proper path. Take it to the United Nations for a vote first, then see what happens next. Skipping that is wrong and not the American way,” he said. Barau added that he would say the same face-to-face and that no one can bully Nigeria into fear.

The row stems from Trump’s anger over deaths of Christians, which he tied to possible army moves. But Nigerian voices say it ignores the real fight against outlaws and smells of meddling for gain.

Old leaders from the north group hit out at the words as a risky habit of outsiders butting in. They said Nigeria answers to no one and would not stand for pokes dressed up as help against unrest. One speaker warned that America’s past jumps into places like Iraq and Libya only bred more pain, and that the talk of mass killings against one faith is a made-up story to stir trouble. They stressed Nigeria can sort its problems and wants aid only if it respects the land’s freedom and laws.

Cattle herders’ main group fired back at a US lawmakers’ call to punish them for claimed faith wrongs. Their head called the links to terror and hate “groundless and nasty,” aimed at dragging them into politics. He said they are a clean outfit for farmers with no ties to bad crowds, and they plan to fight the tag with proof.

Young northern voices saw the warning as a grab for Nigeria’s riches and ties with other big countries, not real care for beliefs. They urged quick talks through old leaders and experts to push back, saying any outside force would wreck the area and hurt plain folk, just like long US stays elsewhere. They are sure the faith angle hides bigger aims that anyone can spot.
