The legal battle surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension has intensified, as her lawyer, Michael Numa (SAN), calls on the National Assembly to honour a Federal High Court order directing her reinstatement.

Earlier this month, a ruling by Justice Binta Nyako declared the Senate’s six-month suspension of the Kogi Central lawmaker unjustified. The court criticised the disciplinary action, which stemmed from an alleged seating protocol breach, as excessive and harmful to democratic representation.

Despite the judgment, the Senate has yet to comply, citing an ongoing appeal. In response, Numa submitted a formal notice to the National Assembly’s legal department, clarifying that the court’s decision is binding and enforceable under Nigerian law.

He referenced specific sections of the Constitution to support his argument, insisting that no authority is above a competent court’s directive. He also warned that if the judgment continues to be ignored, further legal steps may be taken.
