The trial of Oyakhilome Natasha, a defendant facing charges of alleged cybercrime, has been adjourned by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The presiding judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, deferred the proceedings until Monday, October 20, 2025, to allow for the full disclosure of evidence from the prosecution.
The case, which is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), involves allegations that the defendant posed as an American citizen to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. The defence counsel, I. O. Amaechina, informed the court that he had only just received a portion of the evidence against his client from the prosecution. He argued that he needed adequate time to review all the disclosed materials to properly prepare his defence.
Counsel for the EFCC, Tabitha O. A., did not object to the request for an adjournment, acknowledging the need for a fair process. Justice Egwuatu subsequently granted the request and remanded the defendant at the Suleja Correctional Centre until the new trial date in October. The judge also directed the prosecution to ensure that all evidence is fully disclosed to the defence team well in advance of the next hearing.
