Promoter Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, CEO of Balmoral Group, confirmed that discussions with Joshua’s camp have been positive, with both parties expressing enthusiasm for the project.

The proposed bout is slated to take place at the 50,000-capacity Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, with potential opponents including heavyweight contenders of African descent. Names under consideration include France’s Tony Yoka, Congo-born Martin Bakole, and American former WBC champion Deontay Wilder, who has Nigerian heritage. Adamu emphasized that the event would be an “all-African affair,” celebrating the continent’s boxing talent and cultural pride.

Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion, was born in Watford, England, but spent part of his childhood in Nigeria and has consistently expressed his desire to fight in the country before retiring. His connection to Nigeria is symbolized by a tattoo of the country’s outline on his right shoulder. Adamu described the fight as a “match made in heaven,” noting that Nigeria’s large market and infrastructure make it an ideal host for such a landmark event.

The Federal Government’s backing is seen as a key factor in realizing this ambition, with Adamu highlighting Nigeria’s potential to become a hub for global boxing events. The promoter also dismissed rumours of Joshua fighting in Ghana, asserting that Nigeria is the natural choice for the boxer’s African debut. This event could mirror the historic significance of Muhammad Ali’s 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” in Kinshasa, positioning Nigeria as a destination for world-class sporting spectacles.
