The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over what it termed his unexplained absence from the state for more than two weeks.
In a statement issued Tuesday, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi alleged that Adeleke left without any formal handover to his deputy or notification to the public. The party described the situation as unusual and demanded clarity on who had been overseeing the state’s affairs.
“The people of Osun deserve to know who is in charge,” Olabisi stated, questioning whether the governor had officially transferred power to his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, in line with constitutional provisions.
Responding to the concerns, Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the governor had travelled to the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew, award-winning musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Rasheed dismissed the APC’s comments as “politically motivated,” noting that the governor remains in contact with his deputy and that government operations are ongoing.
“This is not an official vacation. Governor Adeleke has continued to engage with his deputy while away and will return shortly. The APC is welcome to join the Adeleke family in celebrating this joyous occasion,” he said.
He also pointed out that the governor has not taken any official leave since assuming office in November 2022.
