Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially ended his long-standing membership with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just two years after contesting the 2023 presidential election under the party’s banner.
His decision, revealed in a letter shared publicly on Wednesday, follows growing signs of internal disagreement and his involvement in forming a new political coalition believed to be the Alliance Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku, a founding member of the PDP, expressed appreciation for the opportunities the party offered him over the years, including two terms as Nigeria’s Vice President and multiple presidential candidacies. However, he said the current state of the party no longer reflects the values it once stood for.
While the full direction of his next political move remains unclear, sources close to the former VP suggest he will be a key figure in rallying opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections.
Further developments are expected in the coming days.
