The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a public warning about a fake student loan application portal that’s currently circulating across social media and messaging platforms.
The fraudulent site, falsely presented as a government-authorised platform, claims that President Bola Tinubu has reopened the NELFUND student loan portal. The misleading message includes a suspicious link designed to mimic the official loan website.
In a statement released on Monday, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, described the website as a complete scam.
“We wish to categorically state that this website is FAKE, and the information contained in the message is false and misleading,” she said.
Students, parents, and guardians have been advised not to click on the fake link or provide personal details through any unofficial channel.
NELFUND reaffirmed that the only valid application portal remains: https://nelf.gov.ng
The agency also encouraged the public to report suspicious websites or messages to info@nelf.gov.ng, and to rely only on its verified social media pages, @nelfund on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, as well as its official Facebook and LinkedIn pages.
According to Oluwatuyi, NELFUND remains committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the loan application process.
